Mali's Justice Minister resigns over on-air tirade

Mali's Justice Minister Mamadou Konate has resigned following the acquittal of a popular radio presenter and activist who accused President Ibrahim Keïta and top military leaders of failing to secure the country. The Independent reports that Mohamed Bathily regularly broadcast tirades against Keita's administration until his arrest in August 2016. News of his detention led to protests on the streets of Mali's capital, Bamako. He was cleared of all charges last week following months of legal wrangling. The report notes that Konate will be replaced by lawyer Hamidou Maiga.
